Moving Image Showreel

This new showreel incorporates both visual effects compositing film and 3D animation, the first part shows some last minute film/editing work recently acquired independently, the edit is great because it's been rushed to fit into to this showreel.

The second part of this Showreel demonstrates visual effects and composited Film and 3D animation in the previous six months. Despite some of the footage being a bit rough around the edges, I think it gives on honest expression of my work development to date.

VFS Vancouver Film School Showreel - Research

An incredibly high standard of 3D animation and film compositing comes from VFS, this is down to it's one year concentrated production work combined with industry led theoretical work.

I have began to notice a trend in visual effect showreels, they often show they layers of the composition being built up. This has given me some ideas about how i can improve my own composition. Unfortunately there is not enough time to edit my showreel in time for the presentation, however this shouldn't matter too much as I am planning on stay on for the third year

Creative Saints - Research

Creative Saints are a motion graphics design agency based in central London. We do 2D, 3D, live action, animation and compositing for a wide range of broadcast, advertising and production clients.

Saints began in 2004 when Nicky and Matt decided to work for themselves after learning their craft at some of their biggest competitors. They are nimble enough to work on any projects of any size. Their clients love that they can talk directly to their design teams. Giving consistency and that little extra quality control which they are famous for. They’re proud to be OCD (obsessive creative designers).

New Business Card - Development

The previous business card produced used a distressed font with a lens flare effect on it, which doesn't look very professional so I decided to design another. This looks more like something I would feel more satisfied with providing to a potential client. I'm not entirely sure about the blending options it either makes it or breaks it.

Showreel - 3D Animation/Film Editing and Compositing

I'm not entirely satisfied with all the footage on this showreel however this isn't such an issue because I plan to stay on for the third year. Between now and over a year from now both the quality and quantity of my work will hopefully increase. On the other hand I think this showreel represents the level I am currently working at. Room for improvement but not too dissatisfied.

Business Card - Development

I decided to produce myself a business card representing my area of expertise in 3D animation/Film editing and composting. Although a fairly broad area, this is is currently what areas I have produced work in this year which I have enjoyed and could see myself working in the future. This will probably need narrowing down in to one particular specialized area when I have a better understanding of exactly what it is I plan to be doing just over a year from now.

3 Sixty Media, owned by ITV Productions and BBC resources, based at the manchester studios working with big independent clients throughout the UK. Proving studio space, post production and creative space for the broadcast industry.

The Manchester Studios have recently upgraded their post production capabilities with a 300K + investment in an new Pandora HD grading suite.

Shoot You is a full service video production company that specialises in producing video for business (inc conferences and seminars). Staffed by former BBC personnel, Shoot You provide all the elements you will require for a video production. We shoot and edit on all formats: from high definition to Mini DV. Shoot You offer full post-production facilities including video editing, 2D and 3D graphics, and DVD and Flash authoring.

Research - Motion Graphics Showreel - Stephen Watkins

I decided to do some research into motion graphics showreels to get an idea of what to put in my own showreel. Some film and motion graphics work here. If this is the quality of work be produced a couple of years ago I fear I will have a long way to go until my work is at this standard.

View First Film and Video Production has a full size green screen studio with track and dolly equipment, more importantly for me the post production software includes Avid Express and Final Cut Studio for cutting edge HD Footage editing. Their website has very limited information and the company has only small name local clients to speak of.

Motion Graphics / Animation Showreel - Walter Rafelsberger - Research

Here is a showreel of motion grapphics and animation that I feel is not obtainable by my standards, it's just the body of work is far greater than I have achieved in this past year. The tools I can tell he has used are After Effects and a 3D animation program, like I saay I know I have the required skills to create a showreel of this standard, I just need to start doing it.

There is some good 3D animation here, some of the motion tracking looks a bit jerky but I can't really speak until i can create work of this standard.

VTR North is a creative post production facility based in Leeds. Specialising in high end projects we offer visual effects, 3D animation, editing, titles design and graphics, radio commercial production and sound design. The facility is equipped with Autodesk Smoke HD & Combustion, Maya Unlimited 3D, Pixar's Renderman, Final Cut Pro HD, After Effects and Pro Tools HD.

VTR North does work for commercials, music promos, short films, titles and television broadcasting.

Optic Mountain - Visual effects, Film and Motion Graphics- Research

Optic Mountain was initially a web design company founded in Edinburgh specializing in dynamic flash, by 2007 they had expanded offering a wider in digital design including the motion work department which offers motion graphics solutions such as Motion Design, Animation, Film, CGI special Effects for Film and 3D Motion Graphics. This division also has a further specialist section, liquid simulations, dealing with physically correct photo-particle simulations such as running water.
